Course Description

This 5-day course is designed to address the didactic needs of practicing radiology, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy technologists who wish to gain competency in the PET imaging modality. The 45-hour curriculum is consistent with the cross education and training requirements put jointly by the ASRT and the SNMT for PET/CT dual-modality training.

 

Daily Program Syllabus

Day 1: properties of radionuclides, PET pharmaceuticals, production of radioactive materials and patient dose management

Day 2: proper laboratory handling of radioactive materials, localization, synthesis and QA of radionuclides, personal protection and personal monitoring

Day 3: work area monitoring and protection, radioactive waste, principles and operation of non-imaging instrumentation

Day 4: PET detectors, PET/CT Gantry, Coincidence detection, CT systems, PET quality control

Day 5: PET image formation, Data analysis, image fusion/registration, image artifacts and PET shielding, survey and patient flow
