Course Description

This 5-day course is designed to address the didactic needs of practicing radiology, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy technologists who wish to gain competency in the Computed Tomography (CT) imaging modality. The 45-hour curriculum is consistent with the cross education and training requirements put jointly by the ASRT and the SNMTS for PET/CT dual-modality training.

 

Daily Program Syllabus

Day 1: CT development, tomographic acquisition, tubes, detectors, generators, spiral and multi-detector

Day 2: Computer applications in imaging, CT scan factors, image display and processing, image quality paramaters

Day 3: CT applied terminology, quality control programs and tests, hard copy systems

Day 4: Bio-effects of radiation, exposure, dose, dose-equivalent in CT, CTDI, CTD volume, conventional vs. spiral, pediatric dose reduction

Day 5: The pregnant patient in CT, Facility design and shielding, PET/CT shielding, area survey and patient flow review, PET/CT image fusion/registration, CT accreditation process
